Biography

Art that turns branding inside-out

Welcome to the subversive debut of Totally Justified Hypocrisy, a new pseudonymous artist exploding onto the contemporary art scene with a wry and unapologetic critique of modern consumer culture. In this fearless collection, luxury retail bags are transformed into painted statements that interrogate the transactional nature of status, value, and self-worth.

With each work, the artist reimagines recognisable icons of commerce, from Bloomingdale’s to Selfridges, replacing logos with biting social commentary. “Bloominglovely,” “How Rich?”, “Foreplay & Passion”… the words catch your eye. But it’s the switch, the rebrand, the almost-subliminal alteration that forces a second glance. This is art as disruption.

Through meticulous painting, TJH invites us to reflect on how branding subconsciously shapes our perceptions. In their words: "The unconscious mind reads words wherever we go... until a change is made." What results is a beautifully executed moment of cognitive dissonance, both humorous and profound.

Is the label we flaunt a badge of pride or a mirror to our own insecurity? Is shopping self-expression or self-deception? The answer is left deliciously ambiguous.

Each edition is based on an original painting, hand-finished with a luxury gloss that further blurs the line between object and idea. At once collectible and controversial, these artworks are the ultimate modern artefacts: desirable and deeply ironic.
