Born in Singapore, brought up in a remote Welsh valley and now living in Macclesfield
Gareth is an emerging mixed media artist whose work is gathering increased interest from
contemporary art collectors. Utilising a range of techniques from photography to digital to
traditional pen and brush his work is influenced by childhood memories, vintage textiles,
street art and an O.C.D. attention to detail. Unconstrained by the need to conform to
traditional codes he employs whatever skills and materials needed to achieve the desired
To date, Gareth has exhibited extensively in the north of England and has featured at the
Manchester and Edinburgh Art Fairs. Gathering attention, he was April’s ‘Artist in Focus’ in
in lifestyle magazine, Cheshire Life.
His series ‘My Father’s Books’ is a celebration of his dad’s literary collection and continues
to be popular. Classic and contemporary book covers are transformed into delicate
swallowtail butterflies and presented in frames that resemble specimen cases.
‘’Each piece I create connects me to a time in my father’s life where he took time out to
read. It also connects me to my childhood where I was surrounded by dad’s books. I try
and capture the atmosphere of the covers through their wear and tear, their faded covers
and even a guilty coffee stain.”
His latest series ‘Urban Geisha’ draws upon his influences and interest in materials to create
21 st Century versions of the traditional Geisha. The influence of street art is obvious as is his
interest in Eastern symbolism and imagery. Each piece is hand crafted as layers of Gold
Leaf, acrylics, Hanko stamps, Japanese postage stamps and 3D relief tiles are woven into the
